Legacy Health System's
We congratulated Teresia Hazen in 2007 as the recipient of the American Horticultural Society's Horticultural Therapy Award.
Teresia Hazen has been head of Legacy Health System's Horticultural Therapy department here in Portland for fifteen years, overseeing numerous programs and currently six therapeutic gardens with five more gardens in the planning stage.Three of these gardens have received the American Horticultural Therapy Association's Therapeutic Garden Design Award.
Teresia has received other awards and recognition for her outstanding work in the field of Horticultural Therapy. She is a tireless advocate for the incorporation of plants, gardens and nature in a variety of clinical and non-clinical settings. She has taught courses and seminars in the United States and by invitation in Japan.
Portland Nursery has participated in various ways with Teresia and her projects over the last several years, and have witnessed first hand some of the wonderful results of her efforts. She has been one of the organizers of the annual Senior Gardening Day held each year at Portland Nursery on Division, and this fall she will be offering several activities during Elder Day at the annual Apple Tasting (in October, at the Stark street location).
It is an award well-deserved; Teresia Hazen has and will continue to contribute importantly to the health and vibrancy of our community. Congratulations!
