Wreathmaking workshop

This is the first of our wreathmaking workshops; learn to turn a form and our lovely selection of greens into a unique and eye–catching wreath for your door this year! Portland Nursery staff will supply the technical know–how, you bring your own special style, your gloves and pruners. We will make a 12” wreath with fresh greens and other decoration. Dress warmly! There is a $30 materials fee for this class.

Terrarium Building Workshop

From lush greenery to mini desert scenes, terrariums provide an oasis of plant–filled fun! Join terrarium fanatic Angelina Ponce for this hands–on workshop where you will build your own little ecosystem in a glass container! Angelina will walk you through step–by–step, discussing terrarium "ingredients", lighting & moisture requirements, and choosing the right plant combinations for a healthy, thriving terrarium. She will also give great tips for how to use different container styles and decorative additions to spice up your little green scene. There will be tons of plant material to choose from, enabling you to create a terrarium unique to you!
Cost: $30 (all materials included). Class limited to 12.

Stock your winter herbal first aid kit

with Carmen Jarrell of Toadvine Botanicals
Carmen will share her top ten common herbs for winter ailments. Learn to take the plants from either fresh or dried to medicine, and which to use for what complaints. The class will also include a tincture and glycerite demonstration.

Intro to Indoor Bonsai

If you’ve always been curious about growing indoor bonsai, this is the class for you! Join bonsai expert Greg Brenden, Vice President of Programs for the Portland Bonsai Society, to learn the basics of successfully growing indoor bonsai. Greg will provide a great overview of bonsai styles, tree and pot selection, planting, watering, pruning and training. He will also discuss ideal growing conditions for different varieties and share great tips & technique for success!

Staghorn Fern Mounting Workshop

Join houseplant expert Bruce Fothergill, of Fothergill’s Tropicals, for this hands–on workshop and take home your very own mounted Staghorn Fern! Bruce will walk you through the step–by–step process of properly mounting Staghorns to wooden boards. He will also discuss proper care, lighting and growing requirements to keep your fern healthy and happy for years to come!

Cost: $15, payable to teacher day of class (*Cash or check only). All materials included. Class limited to 15.

Make Your Own Outdoor Bonsai

In this workshop you will create and bring home your own outdoor bonsai! Join George Bowman, Store Manager at Portland Nursery–Division, to learn the basics of growing outdoor bonsai. With over 12 years of experience, George will walk you through plant selection, repotting, trimming and training.

Cost: $30 (all materials included). Please bring hand pruners, if you have them. Class limited to 12.
