Senior Gardening Day

Sponsors Home Instead and Portland Nursery come together to provide a day of hands-on activities and demonstrations geared especially for the elder gardeners in our community.

The weather was warm and sunny, and we had the biggest Senior Gardening Day ever!

Over two hundred seniors came to visit, many in groups from local assisted living facilities.

It was a fun afternoon for all: making lavender sachets and leaf rubbings, planting crocus bulbs in pots to take back home to bring some bright color to their window sills in late winter.

There was time to explore the nursery and find some plants to buy; refreshments to snack on, and the chance to just visit and enjoy each other’s company. A perfect afternoon for gardening and conversation.

Reggie Houston’s Box of Chocolates was back again this year to serenade our visitors — dancing was spotted happening in the periphery of the tent!

A big thank you to Home Instead and Friends of Portland Memory Garden for being great co-sponsors with us, and helping give our senior gardeners such a great experience!
