2013 Spring Employment

Thank you for your interest in working at Portland Nursery. Interviews are over for 2013. Thank you for applying.

 

We do accept applications during the year to keep on file in case of unexpected openings. You can print out our application and mail or deliver it to our Stark and/or Division  location (each hires separately). Download the application. Send directly to the location where you are interested in working, our Stark location or our Division location.

Applicants having plant knowledge is definitely a plus, but customer service and cashiering experience is of primary importance.

We are looking for individuals who are willing to work as part of a team. People who can multitask like crazy and who are undaunted, if not downright inspired, by an atmosphere of high energy and lots of stimulus. Spring at Portland Nursery is a fast-paced romp and intensely busy, and to make it a good time had by all we need a staff who can work together and stay calm, enthusiastic and cheerful under fire.

Duties include some or all of the following:

• Cashiering
• Answering multi-line phone and directing calls
• Customer assistance: locating/selecting plant material, supplies, problem-solving
• Maintenance of plant material and hardgoods
• Assisting with creation of displays

Skills we're looking for:

• Ability to work well under pressure
• Excellent attention to detail
• Good communication skills
• Ability to work cooperatively

It's hard work and can be a lot of fun besides; we guarantee you'll learn a lot in a short amount of time, whether you have a beginner's interest in plants or are already a seasoned gardener! Our Division and Stark locations interview and hire separately. Please apply to the location you prefer. If you are interested in both stores, please submit a separate application to each. See application forms in the right column.
