Lauhala Bracelet Weaving

with Anita Keāʻlani Yap
5050 SE Stark Street
Sunday • October 11 • 10am-12pm

$100

Overview

Learn to weave an apo lima, a bracelet woven from leaves of the puhala tree (Pandanus tectorius). Participants will work with prepared lauhala and learn the basic techniques for starting, weaving and finishing a bracelet. The workshop will also introduce puhala as a living plant and cultural resource, including gathering and preparation, care for puhala groves, and the importance of sustaining weaving knowledge and healthy sources of lauhala for future generations.

Designed for beginning and intermediate weavers, the workshop emphasizes learning through the hands: slowing down, observing the material, and becoming familiar with its texture, movement, and strength. Each participant will create a lauhala bracelet to take home.

$100/person includes materials and instruction fees.
Register directly with the teacher using the link below.
